Minister Of Tourism And Sports Fake Tourism Safety Campaign

The Minister of Tourism and Sports is once again doing damage control trying to convince foreigners that random attacks in Bangkok, crashing on a zipline in Chiang Mai, drowning in Phuket on your honeymoon, or escaped crocodiles should not be a concern for foreign tourist arrivals and that none of these incidents impacted Thai Tourism.

See, there has been a rash of bad news that the Minister of Tourism and Sports is trying to fend off by pretending to care and launching a campaign to begin on 1 November. Why wait two weeks?

You can see by the image above that the Minister of Tourism and Sports and the two Royal Thai Police Officers have just heard a question from a foreigner who cannot possibly understand Thainess and why putting up Safety Zone banners is just as good as having Police patrols.

Thai Tourism is in the toilet and is so bad that the focus for the rest of the year and for 2016 is domestic tourism. The Minister of Tourism and Sports and the Governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand will both claim that Thailand welcomed 30 million tourists but the numbers are pure fiction.

BANGKOK, 17 October 2015 (NNT) – Tourism agencies, tourist police and foreign diplomats have met at a special seminar jointly held by the Royal Thai Police and the Ministry of Tourism and Sports.

Funny, I didn’t see anything in any other online news source saying this was going to happen. Must be another knee-jerk reaction to the latest Chinese deaths.

The seminar was meant to assure related agencies of the government’s safety measures for tourists. The opening ceremony was co-chaired by National Police chief Pol Gen Chakthip Chaijinda and Minister of Tourism and Sports Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul.

What safety measures? Like for the two Aussies that got their asses kicked by about 10 bouncers in Phuket? Or, the bar owner that got pummeled by a Brit tourist and needed 17 stitches?

Deputy National Police chief Pol Gen Wut Liptapallop said the police would concentrate on crime prevention and suppression of trans-national criminal networks, illegal tour operators and tour guides, drug trafficking gangs, hooligans and influential groups.

Uh, illegal tour guides don’t get foreigners killed. They actually provide a service that Thai tour guides don’t. What will the Royal Thai Police and the Thai Tourist Police do to prevent crime? Nothing. The drugs and hooligans are there because of the police. No one will take this Minister of Tourism and Sports seriously.

Pol Gen Wut revealed that the campaign would start on 1 November.

So, no one is safe for the rest of the month. How stupid is this? Why wait?

Once again, the Thai Police and the Minister of Tourism and Sports are clueless.
