I recently went on a 3-week metal detecting trip to Na Dan Beach in Khanom, Nakhon Si Thammarat and got there using the Nok Air Fly/Drive package.
Usually, when planning my metal detecting trips, I start searching the low cost carriers to see what beaches/islands they go to with their fly/drive or fly/drive/boat packages.
Nok Air had a fly/drive package to Na Dan Beach in Nakhon Si Thammarat that looked promising so I did a bit more research and decided the 10 kilometer long beach would be perfect for metal deteting.
Once again, I had issues trying to book online with my credit card but it wasn’t the fault of Nok Air. My credit card company keeps blocking purchases in Thailand despite my pleas to indicate somewhere that I live in Thailand and about the only time I use the credit card is to book with Nok Air or Thai AirAsia.
It only takes a phone call to unblock my credit card, but it is a nuisance. I may have to get a Thai credit card.
Anyhow, once unblocked I booked my flight from Don Mueang International Airport in Bangkok to Nakhon Si Thammarat Airport and then the van ride to Khanom Golden Beach Hotel. Also booked the return. Super simple since it is a package. All one has to do is read where the van will pick you up and drop you off.
I had to book flights from Khon Kaen to Bangkok and return separately. That is about my only pet peeve. All flights right now are individual meaning I have to get off the plane, get my luggage and check in again in Bangkok. A bit of a pain and usually adds a couple hours to the over all flying.
My flights were uneventful, on time, and comfortable. The fly/drive package was 2,429 baht round trip with all taxes and fees included. Very cheap as it is about a one hour flight and one hour van ride one way for about 1,200 baht. The van ride going had a total of 5 passengers including me and the return ride only had me in the van.
Make sure to join the Nok Air Fan Club for all of 200 baht for 2 years. You get priority check-in (big help in Bangkok – no one usually in line), seat choice, and bags tagged priority.
My other flights were Khon Kaen to Bangkok on Thai AirAsia for 1,185 baht and from Bangkok back to Khon Kaen on Nok Air for 1,049 baht. Sometimes it depends on the time of day you are flying that determines which airline to take. There is also ThaiSmile (Thai Airways little sister) but they are usually my last resort choice.
