The Nakhon Si Thammarat Tourism Business Association have been duped by the Tourism Authority of Thailand into thinking that TAT is actually going to promote their city to cities in Europe.
See, the Tourism Authority of Thailand has no idea how to market to Westerners and are too busy promoting the Happiness Street Festival to Bangkokians this month.
The folks at the Nakhon Si Thammarat Tourism Business Association must be complete idiots if they believe that the Tourism Authority of Thailand can do anything for them especially with Thailand under martial law after the May 22nd coup d’etat.
But, the Tourism Authority of Thailand must have done some serious bullshitting because the knuckleheads at the Nakhon Si Thammarat Tourism Business Association have doubled their projected tourism revenue for Fiscal Year 2015. This is insane.
It is a real shame Nakhon Si Thammarat eyes Tourism Authority of Thailand boost because it won’t be coming anytime soon. The Tourism Authority of Thailand is only gearing up to promote Happiness, Thainess and Fun in Bangkok with the Happiness Street Festival, a silly contest with Bangkok photos on Instagram, and celebrating HM the King of Thailand’s birthday in December.
The Tourism Authority of Thailand, despite their annual boondoggle meeting with heads of the foreign TAT offices and the Tourism Council of Thailand have no plan to market Thailand to foreigners. Telling possible foreign tourists to visit Thailand because you will be happy, experience imaginary Thainess, and have fun, is not going to get tourists to visit. They will make their way to Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos and the other ASEAN countries. Thailand will be left in the dust.
The 2015 marketing scheme by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is aimed at promoting secondary provinces including Nakhon Si Thammarat, whose major highlight is Khanom district.
Secondary cities, maybe. Nakhon Si Thammarat? I don’t know where this info comes from as it is not mentioned in this detailed report on Tourism Authority of Thailand and their recovery plan.
Nakhon Si Thammarat has high potential to grow, especially among high-end European tourists who are looking for fresh destinations. Besides Khanom district, other attractions are Khao Luang National Park and the Baan Khiri Wong traditional community.
This is the problem with the Tourism Authority of Thailand – not knowing their market and promoting to Westerners the same way they promote to Thais.
The Nakhon Si Thammarat Tourism Business Association set the figure at double last year’s revenue, said adviser and former president Suleeporn Serewiwattana.
Idiot. Based on absolutely nothing at all other than empty promises from the Tourism Authority of Thailand.
Baan Khiri Wong has been likened to a big happy family, and locals grow fruit such as mangosteen, rambutan and durian along with stink beans.
Trying to keep the Junta on their side promoting happiness. How will the Tourism Authority of Thailand promote the stink beans? “Nakhon Si Thammarat – come for the happy family, stay for the stink beans”.
“A visit to Khanom is highly recommended for all travellers looking for an unspoiled travel destination,” said Ms Suleeporn.
I was in Nakhon Si Thammarat back in 2001 for Exercise Cobra Gold and had to opportunity to stay in the area for a few days when the exercise finished. Unless things have changed, unless you can speak Thai fairly well and don’t mind staying indoors at night because there is little to do, then go and visit NST. The US Army stopped going to NST as it was too close to the southern provinces where all the terrorism takes place.
The past three years, TUI Travel, a European tour agent, has shifted charter flights away from Nakhon Si Thammarat to Krabi because room rates are higher on average for the latter. The association is confident the TAT campaign can stimulate demand and boost room rates in the future.
Krabi is a better destination with access to numerous beaches and actual things to do at night. It is also safer than being further south.
Juthaporn Rerngronasa, the TAT’s deputy governor for international marketing, said the authority planned to bring its marketing representatives, directors of TAT offices in Europe and tour agents to visit Khanom and Nakhon Si Thammarat soon to promote the province before the coming high season.
Uh, the staff was just in Hua Hin last week. Does this mean that the Tourism Authority of Thailand will spend additional money to show Thai people their own province? And, didn’t Khun Juthaporn read that the best time to visit is from March to October? High season is from November to March. Another clueless deputy governor at the Tourism Authority of Thailand.
This new TAT campaign will be called “Khanom + Downtown of Nakhon Si Thammarat City”
I am not sure that this will be approved by the ruling Junta since the Tourism Authority of Thailand failed to use “Thainess”, “Happiness”, or “Fun” in the slogan.
